A seasonal guide to Marrakech

Regarded as possibly one of the most important of Morocco's four former imperial cities, Marrakech offers something to visitors every season of the year. Explore the busy Medina during the mild winter months, soak up the sun during cloudless spring days, escape the summer heat in a local café, or head to the Atlas Mountain for a nice fall hike. Whichever season you choose to visit Marrakech, there will be no shortage of memorable experiences.

Winter

The Atlas Mountains may be covered with snow, but it's still t-shirt weather

Snow might be peppering the peaks of the Atlas Mountains, but temperatures in the heart of Marrakech are still ideal for holidaying. Not swelteringly hot but warm enough for a t-shirt, it’s the perfect season to explore the exotic scents, sights and squares of the Medina and the rich experiences on offer in Morocco. Though the days are comfortably warm, it can get chilly at night – it’s best to bring a couple of layers with you if you want to go exploring the spectacle of Djemaa El-Fna after dark!

Spring

Spring skies in Marrakesh are breathtaking

The spring skies over Marrakesh may well be some of the most beautiful you’ll ever see. Often totally cloudless, they’re that shade of blue that’s hazy at the horizon and deepens to a tranquil expanse the higher you go. Naturally, this means you’re going to get some delightfully sunny days, and the heat really does get turned up the further you get into spring. Yet it’s that kind of beautiful weather that beckons you outside to explore, and with all the wonders of Marrakech on your doorstep that’s no bad thing at all.

Summer

The summer months are seriously hot, but there's plenty of places to cool down

If your idea of a perfect holiday involves lots of heat and lots of exploring, you’ve probably already visited Marrakech! The sunnier months are seriously hot in Morocco, but luckily there’s plenty of options to cool off if things start to feel a bit sweltering. You can duck into the shade of a cafe for a spot of mint tea or spend your time beside the pool – or perhaps browsing a few shops in a souk is more your style? Whatever you choose, the good news is that the Medina and all of its delights will still be in full swing when the sun has set and the day feels cooler!

Fall

Market square in the perfect spot to explore in the cooler fall months

With its beautiful russet-coloured building, autumn is a season that suits Marrakech well. The temperatures drop off from the heady heights of summer, meaning more time to explore all the experiences offered by this exotic and enigmatic city. No visit is complete without a trip through the Bab Bou Jeloud to the vibrant souks and squares of the Medina, and if you feel the need for outdoor adventure head to the Atlas Mountains for a little hiking or horseback riding.
